Buddhist Meditation Retreat FAQ
The Bodhicitta Meditation Retreat Centre Suan Phueng is situated in the peaceful countryside of Thailand. It's located in the Suan Phueng district of Ratchaburi province. Bangkok is just a 2-hour drive away.
Everyone who has had enough meditation training to be able to benefit from a personal, individual meditation retreat is welcome. Although we have connections with Tibetan buddhism, we welcome people from any buddhist tradition.
Rooms and bungalows for individual personal retreats can be booked online for periods of 2 days to 1 month. If you wish to stay for longer then please book online for 1 month and write in the special requests field when you plan to leave; we will reserve a room for you and then you can pay monthly.
Suggested donation amounts vary from USD 18 to USD 21 per night including food, it depends on the room you choose. The amount we ask for is to cover the cost of your food and utility bills. We operate as a "not for profit" organisation.
English is the primary language. All written communication will be in English. Of course all the staff can speak Thai. Also some staff speak French and German.
When you book online you can request an airport transfer from Bangkok airport (be sure to tell us which airport), or transfer from Ratchaburi train station (this is the nearest train station). The cost of the transfer can be found on the pricing page.
Alternatively, you could come to our restaurant Kieng Kiri Suan Phueng (which is very close) and checkin there.
You need to bring comfortable clothes to meditate in; either loose or stretchy clothes. Bring anything you need for your practice such as sadhana texts, prayer books and mala beads. If you need any medication then bring that too.
Bedding and towels are supplied. Vegetarian food and water are supplied.
The staff will help you organise the schedule for your retreat, if you need it. You can ask other retreatants about your practice and they will help you as dhamma friends.
However, there is no resident lama, nun or teacher. You need to receive teachings in advance and then come to the retreat to gain experience.
By coming on a personal retreat you will have set your own boundaries and made a commitment to yourself to practice for a defined period of time. Of course, you are free to leave at anytime, the future is not certain and none of us know what issues are going to arise.
During the retreat you may also need to make a short, unplanned, visit somewhere (e.g. the local dentist, or to buy toileteries). In this case, please ask the staff and we will be happy to help.
