A Land of Faith: Buddhism in Rural Thailand

Thailand is deeply steeped in Buddhist tradition, with over 90% of the population identifying as Buddhist. This strong faith is particularly evident in rural areas like Suan Phueng, where Buddhist devotion permeates every aspect of daily life.

A Monastery in Every Village:

The landscape is dotted with Buddhist monasteries, often appearing every few kilometers. These sacred spaces serve as spiritual centers for the community, offering a place for meditation, prayer, and spiritual guidance.

The Daily Ritual of Almsgiving:

Each morning, a poignant ritual unfolds: monks embark on their alms rounds, walking from house to house to receive food offerings from the community. This act of giving is deeply ingrained in the culture, reflecting the profound respect and gratitude for the monks and their spiritual guidance.

A Legacy of Faith:

The devotion to Buddha is evident in the numerous temples that grace the countryside. Many are adorned with impressive statues, a testament to the community’s unwavering faith and a visual declaration of their Buddhist identity.

Buddhism at Bodhicitta Retreat Centre Suan Phueng

Our activities at the meditation retreat centre are devoted to the Buddha and intended for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Each retreat room has a simple shrine with a Buddha statue and LED candles.

Outside in the grounds of the centre you will find consecrated statues to inspire us during our retreats.
